Absinthe’s history

Absinthe is the writers and artists’ spirit. It is towards the end of the XVIIIth century that the first trace of absinthe was found.

According to the legend, absinthe was invented by Pierre Ordinaire, a French doctor, in 1792.

Nevertheless, it was during the second half of the XIXth century that absinthe, through its inspiring virtues, became immensely popular amongst great poets and great painters: Musset, Apollinaire, Baudelaire, Verlaine, Rimbaud, Manet, Degas, Van Gogh, Toulouse Lautrec as well as Picasso.

Absinthe is currently legal in all the European Union, in the United States of America, in Russia, in South America and in Africa. When made in good conditions and following state of the art rules, absinthe is perfectly harmless, hence it became legal again in 1988 in France and then all over the European Union. During the 2000 decade the rest of the world followed up.
